Engineered Hardwood Floors - Westchester and Stamford
Engineered hardwood flooring blends the easy installation of laminate floors with the durability of real hardwood flooring. This flooring choice has a top layer of finished hardwood on top (called the lamella) with layers of unfinished hardwood underneath (called the core or substrate). The middle layers, laid crossways, adds extra strength and reduces expansion and contraction throughout the seasons.
Engineered hardwood flooring has a variety of installation methods: nail-down, glue-down and floating. This provides flexibility as to where and how it’s installed. Solid hardwood requires a plywood subfloor whereas engineered hardwood can be installed on top of plywood or cement. In addition, engineered hardwood can be installed in basements that are below grade, whereas solid can’t.
Some engineered hardwoods are approved for use over radiant heat. Engineered hardwood flooring can even withstand areas with light moisture such as kitchens and bathrooms, though like all wood floors, it should never be used in rooms prone to flooding.
When choosing your engineered hardwood flooring, you’ll find that it comes in as many styles as there are species of hardwood. Some of the most popular choices of engineered hardwood flooring include oak, Brazilian cherry hickory, maple and bamboo. Engineered hardwoods vary greatly in quality – some can not be sanded & refinished, while others can be sanded multiple times. No matter what your style, Floor Coverings International of Westchester can help you navigate through the maze and find the engineered hardwood flooring that’s just right for you.
