Tile Installation - Westchester and Stamford
By far, tile is the hardest surface to install properly and the one surface where you see the largest variety of skill levels. Because tile installation tends to be on the expensive side (due to the labor involved) and because many homeowners believe they can do this work themselves, it is the most frequent surface attempted by do-it-yourselfers.
While we are happy to supply materials to the do-it-yourselfer, we do caution customers on the level of quality – both short-term and long-term – that they will get. Further, repairing these botched up jobs are more expensive vs. hiring the professionals in the first place. The most frequent issue is proper floor prep – installing over the proper surface and leveling out the floor and walls. If this step is skipped, you can count on your tiles cracking within a few years, so even if you lay the tile nicely, all your work will have gone to vain. A lot of people skip this step since you can’t see it and/or they just don’t know any better, but it is the foundation and hence the most important step.
With a professional tile installer, not only will you ensure that floor prep is done properly, but you will make sure your tiles are laid beautifully and evenly. First, we carefully measure in all directions to make sure that tile is properly centered on all dimensions (so you avoid those miscellaneous odd shaped pieces at the end). Second, we use spacers so all tile is laid straight. We can adjust grout line widths based on your preferences. Third, we provide guidance on how high to install on the wall and work neatly around electrical outlets. We also make sure you have all the proper end pieces for smooth transitions with the walls. Fourth, when it comes to the shower, we’ll make sure you have a proper mud job so that the water flows down the drain properly, rather than pooling at your feet.
In addition, we love to provide design advice on what styles are colors will look best in your bathroom, or kitchen, or entryway or mudroom. We can help you find some tiles that you love as well as ones that have universal resale value. We can add some spice by adding in borders as well as decorative layouts.
